MARMEN, a manufacturing company based in Trois-Rivières and a CVDM member via Créneau Machines, has just announced an important step in its development. The company will act as a Canadian strategic partner to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the designated supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project.
In practice, MARMEN could manufacture structural subassemblies for the 212CD submarine, including complex machining and assembly work. Specific mandates and job impacts will be confirmed over the coming year, once terms are finalized between the parties involved.
What stands out most is the scope of this opportunity for Quebec's manufacturing ecosystem. MARMEN, which has more than 1,200 employees and close to a million square feet of production capacity across Canada and the United States, has identified defence as a key growth sector, with the ambition of building a North American hub for submarine component manufacturing.
This kind of project captures exactly what we've been saying all month: a resilient supply chain is also built by developing advanced manufacturing capabilities here, capabilities that would otherwise be handled elsewhere. For an SME like MARMEN, it's also proof that being well positioned in your sector can open doors to opportunities well beyond your usual market.
Congratulations to the MARMEN team on this well deserved recognition of their manufacturing expertise.
