In Bromont, a New Manufacturing Link for Quantum Photonics in Canada

News - Intro image

Good news is strengthening Quebec's manufacturing supply chain in a cutting-edge sector. Aeponyx, the Canadian subsidiary of France's Pasqal, has announced a new center dedicated to assembling and packaging components for quantum and advanced sensing technologies.

The new Center of Competency in Photonic Integrated Circuit Packaging will be located at C2MI in Bromont, bringing together Aeponyx, HOP Technologies and Phantom Photonics. The goal is clear: standardize photonic packaging capabilities and build a reliable domestic supply chain for this advanced technology, right here, rather than depending on suppliers abroad.

The project, with a total budget of $7.9 million, is supported by combined federal and provincial funding, including a contribution from Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen), a well known partner of the Canadian manufacturing ecosystem, through its Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program.

The first phase targets low-volume production, supporting the manufacturing of a few thousand devices. The second phase aims to scale output to 500,000 modules per year, a strong signal of the ambition to build real local manufacturing capacity in this niche.

This is exactly the kind of initiative that captures this month's theme: supply chain resilience isn't only about diversifying suppliers, it's also about the ability to bring strategic links home to Canada that would otherwise stay concentrated elsewhere in the world.
